RealTimeTracker. A Simple Solution of the Difficult Task.
It is vital for companies to keep track of how much time an employee spends on working tasks in a particular project. First of all, it allows the companies to define the overall cost of the project in question, including internal projects. Second of all, most of the companies carry out typical projects (or their projects may contain typical phases), and the exact calculation of expenditure for one project enables more efficient planning of future projects. Finally, the exact calculation of expenditure of working time is important in such cases when employees’ salaries or bonuses depend on the actual worked hours on a given project.
The concept that the calculation of working time is important to businesses is proven by the wide range of timesheet software on the market. No wonder that Microsoft Project Server contains timesheet functionality as well. However the precise calculation of the working time has never been an easy task. As a rule, an employee is engaged in several projects at once, and during the day he or she has to fulfil different tasks, as well as switch from one task to another. Moreover, he or she might receive phone calls, have unscheduled meetings, and deal with other activities, etc. An employee usually fills in the timesheet at the end of the day; but it is naturally a rather complicated a task to remember exactly how much time was spent any given task worked on during the day. Sometimes the timesheet is completed in such a way that the employee simply has to achieve a total of eight hours, and does so being somewhat imprecise as to the actual time spent on tasks.
In some cases employees leave the completion of their timesheet until a Friday and fill in actuals for the whole week, which is an extremely inaccurate method of accounting for the time and often allows for imprecise estimates of the actual time spent on specific tasks. How can one make the completion of such timesheets more precise and simultaneously reduce the amount of time which employees spend on filling in their timesheets? The solution to this difficult problem is very simple: use RealTimeTracker, an add-on for Microsoft Project Server.
RealTimeTracker runs at Windows start-up, and automatically downloads the users’ task list from the server. The list of the tasks appears in a pop-up menu after clicking the program icon in the system tray. Clicking at the task name marks it as one being worked on at the moment, and the program also starts calculating actual work for it. Clicking on the task for the second time stops the calculation of actual work. Or one can click on the name of another task, and then the calculation of actual work for that task will start, and automatically stop for the previous task.

By the end of the day the timesheet may be submitted to Microsoft Project Server. During timesheet submission RealTimeTracker displays a list of tasks that have actual work equal to planned work and user can specify whether those tasks are complete or whether some remaining work is still left to be completed on that task.
RealTimeTracker also contains some additional functionality: automatic download of new tasks from Project Server, new task creation and checking of personal timesheet in Project Server with a single click. You can also group tasks by project or by manager.

By using RealTimeTracker you will be able to take stock of working time and to dramatically increase the productivity of your employees and your business. It is normally estimated that someone would spend approximately ten minutes for submiting their timesheet, which means that with RealTimeTracker you could save up to 50 minutes a week and 40 hours a year, per employee!! – Therefore your business would benefit from one full week of work for each and every employee in your organisation. In todays competitive environment that’s a saving that is well worth having!
